Welcome to the Puppy Place! Here you will find answers to all your basic questions, upcoming litters, links for purchasing info and health guarantee/sale contract, as well as how we work around here in regards to the dogs and puppy care. Again, I want to take the time to say that this breed is NOT for everyone. We do ask that if you've never owned an ACD to PLEASE do your homework, read up on the breed and make absolutely SURE this is the right dog for you.......they are your friend for life, but not the right breed for everyone.
About 3 weeks before impending birth, I put moms to be on dry food puppy formula. She will continue to be fed this until all pups are weaned and have left our home. Once puppies are here, I mix in canned Purina Healthy Blend puppy food with the dry, to keep mom's appetite going.
All litters of puppies are birthed inside in our attached garage, or sometimes inside in the laundry room. We always make sure our puppies are safe, comfortable and warm! Mom and babies are checked on frequently and will be exposed to a wide variety of noises and handling. With three kids in the house puppies get spoiled quickly! All puppies will continue to stay inside until around 4 to 5 weeks of age, and ONLY if weather permits, then do they do outside. I will start feeding pups a mix of rice baby cereal, milk & water around 3 1/2 weeks old. I will continue this until they start to get their teeth in and then I will start them on thinned down Purina Pro Plan canned puppy food twice a day. Once they have teeth in well, I will begin soaking dry food and mix in the canned food as well. By the time puppies are ready for their new homes, they will be mostly munching on dry puppy food. All our dogs have constant access to their food, to eat as they wish. Puppies are left on the mother until she feels the need to wean them and they will be with her until they leave our home. Even though everyone is given "breaks" from each other, they are never left apart for long.
Puppies will be ready to go to their new homes at 8 weeks or after. I will NOT let them go any earlier than their 8 week date, so please do not ask. Also, ALL puppies WILL have their tails......we never have and never will dock tails. Puppies are wormed with Nemex wormer starting at 3 weeks of age, and done at 2 week intervals until they leave. Puppies will also have their first set of shots starting at 6 1/2 weeks of age and will continue at 3 week intervals until puppy leaves or until puppy reaches 16 weeks of age, whichever comes first. Our puppies are sold on limited registration with a one year health guarantee. If you need show/breeding rights, this can be discussed. You can read more regarding this on the "Purchasing Details" page. With your puppy you will receive AKC registration papers, his/her health records and a copy of your signed sale/health guarantee form. All puppies will carry our kennel name, Blueyonder, on their registration forms. You may name your puppy what you wish starting after "Blueyonder" on the form. Remember, our babies come to you fat, healthy and pre-spoiled!
Our dogs are kept in large fenced runs for their own safety while we are not here or not able to be outside with them. They are let out daily for exercise and playtime and anytime we're outside, they are out with us then too. In the very near future, we have plans of a large kennel housing building complete with individual runs, large indoor sleeping quarters for each dog, a maternity suite and large fenced in play/exercise area. Won't these dogs just love it?!? I know I can't wait!!! :)
We encourage all new families and individuals to keep in touch with us and let us know how "our" babies are doing. We love to watch the puppies grow up, so send as many pictures as you wish! :) As a responsible breeder, we are always here to answer any questions that you may have, at any time during your new puppy's life. May your new puppy bring you much joy.........we look forward to keeping in touch with you!
